2007 Wrap-up

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great Christmas (and if you don’t celebrate Christmas, feel free to replace that word with the recent holiday of your choice) and New Year’s.
I’ve been slack in posting, as you all well know. I mentioned in a previous post that I had been briefly hospitalized with pneumonia. Not only did the infection cause me to feel like total crap, the fact that this was happening at the same time as my son’s 5th birthday didn’t help my mood.
Shortly after I got out of the hospital and right after his birthday, my son came down with a stomach virus and was likewise briefly hospitalized. He was a trooper, putting up with more than anybody should have to in at least one instance when the blood-drawing nurse couldn’t hit a vein after about 15 attempts. The boy’s entire hand was black and blue after that debacle. I’ll post more on that later.
The day that my son was being discharged from the hospital, my wife suddenly started showing the same symptoms that he had shown. Within a couple of hours it was evident that she had the same stomach virus. Since we now knew what it was and that it was one of those 24 hour things, we didn’t toss her into the hospital. Bed rest, vomit bucket, lots of water and time were sufficient to deal with that.
Then, six hours after it hit her, it hit me. Fortunately there was a spare bucket. For a while there, right before Christmas, we were a sad, miserable lot. Thankfully, my wife recovered rather quickly after the 24 hours of misery and was able to get the Cmas tree and the various bits of last-minute shopping done. I was already weakened, so it took a while longer to recover a feeling of being human again.
And then it was Christmas. We were mostly out of the woods by then and managed to have a relatively decent Cmas. I would have preferred to have more energy and less tiredness, but at least my boy was mostly back in full swing and able to enjoy it well. There’s a limit to how bad Christmas can be when there’s a healthy 5yo in the house.
Next up was our anniversary; the three of us went to see The Golden Compass. Given the controversy of that film, I’m planning to post on that soon.
And then it was New Year’s. We had a couple invitations to friends’ houses, but we really didn’t feel like going out. So, we hung out at home and watched TV. Not the most exciting New Year’s ever, but quite nice in its own right.
And there ya have it, assuming anyone is interested. I’m hoping to get back to reporting interesting things and making controversial posts shortly. I’m looking forward to 2008, I think it’ll be an awesome year….God willin’ and if the creek don’t rise.
